The Voorthuizen Tattoo was organised for the first time in 1995 on the occassion of the 50th Liberation of The Netherlands. The initiative got great reviews and a second Tattoo was organised in 1997. More Tattoos followed in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2005 and 2010. I was part of the organizing team unitll 2006. The participants in 1997 were: - Massed Pipes & Drums (48th Highlanders of Holland, The Dutch Pipes & Drums and the Inter Scaldis Pipes & Drums - Royal Tank Regiment Cambrai Band (Captain D. Robertson) - Chr. Showband Juliana (H. van de Ridder) - The Band of the Hussars and Light Dragoons (Captain David Cresswell) - Corps of Drums 1st Bn Coldstream Guards (WO2 J. McIlree) - The Band of the Royal Netherlands Air Force (Serg. M. Pijnenborg) The British military bands were based in Germany at that time.

Beste Ben Een vraag van mij aan jou . Wij zijn opzoek naar de middag matine van taptoe breda waaraan de junioren van K&G uit leiden mee hebben gedaan met de zeemansshow 1983 in matrozenpakken . Ik heb ooit beelden gezien maar kan het niet meer vinden . In het kader van 70 jaar junioren van de muziekvereniging Kunst & Genoegen zou het fantastisch zijn dat die beelden weer boven water komen. Ik hoop dat jij mij erbij zou kunnen helpen of iemand die dit leest Bvd dank

Wauw, fantastisch, ik mocht zelf in 1994 als trompettist bij het Fanfarekorps der Genie meespelen en heb alleen nog de korte versie uit het TV programma van toen. Dit complete optreden moet ik echt bewaren. Vanaf 20:12 t/m 32:00 zou ik heel graag in zo hoog mogelijke kwaliteit hebben; kan dat? 👏🏻

Where are we now in 2024? Ever since this performance 43 years ago(I don't know what we may say in history), never this many elegant musicians gathered together in one venue to share their taste of music with the audience. 81 was a special and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. For a wee while i was the next door neighbour to Brians Grandad. We got on great together. My partner commented "you two are like termites from a previous life", due to our mutual wood addiction 😂.On his desk was a picture of him as a young man. Facially he and Brian both looked identical. I had the pleasure of meeting Brian at his granddads memorial service. I was so impressed on how fit Brian was and could visualise how others follow him. Such an ambassador for Scotland and the Black Watch.

Now after 80 years they play together ... what a story behind, as for 1948 try not to cry. Military music, better known as marching music, was played by the Landsknechts to encourage the warriors when there was a fight in the open field. Interesting how we perceive this music...
